Roger Caiazza, certified consulting meteorologist and a veteran of the air quality industry for over 40 years. Roger writes extensively about the energy industry and is author of the “Pragmatic Environmentalist of New York” blog. He spoke regarding the impacts of the CLCPA and related initiatives on Affordability. The presentation, inclusive of detailed references, can be found here.

Environmental Attorney & University Professor Gary Abraham talked about the Legal constraints for local participants and NY’s processes — mandated by Legislation for wind & solar siting. In response to questions on how to approach landowners in the early development stage of a project, Gary provides this letter that he advised the Town of Olean to send to all its residents.

Attorney Amy Lavine of Liberty Street Legal explained NY’s Freedom Of Information Law (FOIL) process in detail and related her experiences pursuing FOIL requests from NYS Dept. of Public Service’s Office of Renewable Energy Siting and Transmission for the American Land Rescue Fund (ALRF) and others.

Keith Schue and Dennis Higgins spoke about the Feasibility of NY’s Energy plans and what real alternatives might look like. Schue is an electrical engineer with a long history of environmental advocacy and Higgins is a computer scientist professor-turned-farmer who has been active in the state energy policy space for many years.

Jonathan Knauth is a Licensed Professional Engineer who has studied turbine design, the nature of the wind resource, sound, community impact, health impacts and other issues related to wind facilities. He holds he certificates in Wind, Solar Photovoltaic, and Solar Thermal system design. He presented on the Impacts of wind generation.

Stephen Helmin is President of Stop Energy Sprawl. A retired IT Director and current Town Supervisor, he writes and speaks, as here, on the Community Impacts of large-scale solar and wind.
